This arrangement of one of John Ylvisaker's best-loved pieces originated as a five part vocal arrangement which was recorded on The Jay Beech Band Vocal Project CD, released in 1994 by Augsburg Fortress. I later adapted it for choral use and it has been used by numerous denominations throughout the country. Particularly suited and widely used for baptismal days, it can also be used as a general anthem.
Commissioned by Bloomington Covenant Church to honor Ken Fenton for his fifty years of sacred choral conducting, Do Not Be Afraid draws its text from Isaiah 43 with the refrain "Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you and called you by name. You are mine."
Commissioned by Faith Lutheran Church, Spicer, Minnesota, for the dedication of the congregation's new worship facility on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2002. Text by one of Faith's pastors, Simon Fensom. Utilizes choir with optional congregational refrain. Suitable for Pentecost, mission emphasis, or general use.
"Give me a clean heart so I might serve thee. Lord, fix my heart so that I might be used by thee." My setting of this fine song with words and music by Margaret J. Douroux uses a gospel style piano accompaniment that your accompanist will enjoy. Works well for youth choirs as well as adults.
I wrote this setting for the Cantorei women’s choir of Luther College, Decorah, IA, conducted by Jennaya Robison. The traditional spiritual is sung in three parts , accompanied by solo cello.
Gracia Grindal's translation of the hymn text by Carolina Sandell Berg expresses the author's sense of wonder in God's many continuing mercies. This light-hearted anthem of praise uses a flute obligato which introduces each verse and is then interwoven with the choral melody.
I wrote this arrangement for Las Cantantes, a very fine women’s vocal ensemble conducted by Brad Ellingboe at the University of New Mexico. It uses the words of the old spiritual – the melody has been rather freely altered and modified. Starts with a slow introduction and then launches into an up-tempo gospel anthem. Optional hand claps and ad lib vocal solo. A rousing concert-closer. Also available in an SSAA arrangement for church choir.

My setting of the classic hymn by Thomas Chisholm and William Runyan. A fluid piano part supports the vocal writing, which is strengthened and enriched by the use of divisi in the bass vocal part. The final stanza builds to a strong restatement of the refrain, followed by a quiet coda for the ending.
"I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved, and free" are the opening words of this fine communion text by Brian Wren. Combines eucharistic language with themes of unity, community, and love. Also suitable for general use.
